our story

on january 20, 2021 in the wee hours of the night in my one bedroom flat overlooking savannah’s historic east broad street, i had a vision to start a record label.

it had been almost 10 years since i had stepped away from music, but somewhere between the pandemic, a move to savannah, a separation from my wife, and my father’s stroke on my birthday… i got “woke” and rediscovered what has always mattered most to me throughout my life… music. once i started following my passion for music, i found something else again… me.

when i shared this vision with a friend, she quickly joined the label and we’ve been writing our story ever since.

whit whitley founder e broad records

hello there, i’m whit whitley. i love music, and i’m the founder of e. broad records. i grew up in spring, texas. i learned how to play guitar from my grandpa. i wrote my  first song when i was 8 years old. the first 45 i bought was “blue bayou” by linda ronstadt. the second 45 i bought was “don’t stop” by fleetwood mac. the first vinyl i bought was “highway to hell” by ac/dc. my 8-track collection included helen reddy, jim croce, barry manilow, elvis presley, linda ronstadt, fleetwood mac, led zepplin, and kiss. in my granny’s record cabinet, i discovered roy orbison, ruth brown, and chubby checker. later i fell in love with memphis rock and soul… willie mitchell, al green… royal, stax, and sun. i’m an avid fan of the indigo girls, k.d. lang, lucinda williams, shawn colvin, joan osborne, melissa etheridge, janis joplin, and stevie nicks. i don’t know where i’d be without the music by all these amazing female artists who made me feel like i belonged in the world. thank you. i hope e. broad records can play a part in helping the new female artists of today share their music with the world.
